Cemetery in Adair, Guthrie County, Iowa; known children include: Charles Herman
James, Lee Orland James, Edith James, Charleston James, Clarence James and Bertha
James.
2. Joseph Reese James: born March 12, 1852 in Madison County, Indiana; died April
29, 1854 (aged 2) in Madison County, Indiana; buried at Friends Cemetery, Fall Creek
Township, Madison County, Indiana.
3. Jones Kerwin James: born March 29, 1854 in Greenfield, Hancock County, Indiana;
married November 18, 1896 to Hanna Elizabeth (Harlow) James (1865-1937) daughter
of Samuel Thompson Harlow and Sarah Martin; died September 3, 1936 (aged 82) in Sebeka,
Wadena County, Minnesota; buried at the West Cemetery, plot B-8-2, Sebeka, Minnesota;
known children include: Vora Julia James, Charles Kerwin James and Ada Marie James.
4. John Chalkley James: born August 8, 1856 in Pendleton, Madison County, Indiana;
first marriage on February 21, 1905 in Holland, Pipestone County, Minnesota to Mary
Gustin (1874-1908), daughter of Pemberton Clayborn Gustin (1844-1909) and Susannah
Fordyce (1849-1924); second marriage on May 6, 1911 in Pipestone County, Minnesota
to Wilma Christina Gustin (1893-1970), illegitimate daughter of Henry Fordyce and
Mary Gustin; died December 8, 1939 (aged 83) in Escondido, San Diego County, California;
buried at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Escondido, San Diego County, California; known
children through Mary Gustin include: Ella Verniece James; known children through
Wilma Christina Gustin include: James Orland James, Sr., Doris Esther James and
Elton Lyle James.
5. Jehu Wilkes James: born December 15, 1858 in Grant Township, Guthrie County,
Iowa; married October 15, 1882 to Cora Thornton; died December 8, 1939 (aged 80)
in San Diego, California; known children include: Grace James, Daisy Elizabeth James,
Charles Lloyd James, Wilkes Elton James and Loren James.
6. Elizabeth Arissa James: born December 28 1861 in Grant Township, Guthrie County,
Iowa; married December 14, 1891/2 to Edward William Hodges (1849-1920); died March
24, 1926 (aged 64) in Pendleton, Madison County, Indiana; buried at Spring Valley
(Fall Creek) Cemetery; known children include: Mary Jane Hodges, Margaret Elizabeth
Hodges and Richard Edward Hodges.
7. Charles Rogers James: born May 22, 1864 in Grant Township, Guthrie County,
Iowa; married March 3, 1886 in Madison County, Indiana to Hannah Elizabeth Harlow
(1865-1937), daughter of Samuel Thompson Harlow and Sarah Martin; died November 22,
1889 (aged 25) in Pendleton, Madison County, Indiana buried at Friends Cemetery,
Fall Creek Township, Madison County, Indiana; also reported buried at Spring Valley
Cemetery in Pendleton, Indiana; known children include: Evan W. James.

9. Ina Ora James: born July 31, 1869 near Adair, Guthrie County, Iowa; married
November 3, 1886 near Adair, Guthrie County, Iowa to William Hayden Woodson (1865-1940);
died May 1, 1943 (aged 73) in San Diego, California; buried at Mount Hope Cemetery,
San Diego, San Diego County, California; known children include: Neva Elaine Woodson
and Frances Oklahoma Woodson.
10. Ida May James: born August 13, 1871 in Guthrie County, Iowa; married February
1, 1893 to Thomas Edward Seeley (1870-1954), son of William Augustus Seeley (1835-1920);
died December 13, 1939 (aged 68) in Culiver, Audrain County, Missourii; buried at
Payne-Seeley-Saxe Cemetery, Audrain County, Missouri; known children include: Oma
May Seeley, Ima Stella Seeley, Alta Ellen Seeley, Hugh Elmer Seeley, Harrison Lynne
Seeley, Minnie Marie Seeley, William Glenn Seeley and Hazel Valentine Seeley.

12. Minnie Alice James: born May 31, 1876 in Grant Township, Guthrie County, Iowa;
married December 29, 1897 in Guthrie County, Iowa to James Robert Huston (1875-1919),
son of John C. Huston (1844-1893) and Bertie Mae Sheldon (1856-1951); died July 21,
1964 in Chapel, Talbot County, Maryland; buried at Grant City, Guthrie County, Iowa;
known children include: Bertie May Huston, James Boyd Huston, Bethene Grace Huston,
Eileen Beulah Huston and Margaret Lora Huston.
13: Sarah Edith James: born October 14, 1878 in Guthrie County, Iowa; died March

Joel Evan James (1826-1904) was the son of Evan James (1784-1844) of Washington County,
Pennsylvania and Rebecca Pickering (1789-1848).
James Orland James, Sr., the son of John Chalkley James (1856-1839), mentioned above,
was born May 11, 1911 in Rock Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota and would marry
three times. Through his second marriage to Esther Violet Elnora Warren (1912-1997)
on August 12, 1941 in San Diego, California he would have two children including:
Violet Christine James born in 1942 who is the mother of Heidi Hafner. James Orland
James Sr. is also the father of James Orland James, Jr. who is a participant in the
James Y-DNA Surname Project supported by Family Tree DNA, Inc. at www.jamesdna.net
