Children of Samuel James (1754-1812) and Hannah Smith (1758-1844) of Radnor Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania:

 

1.    Joshua James:  born circa 1778 in Loudoun County, Virginia; 1800 moved with parents to Jefferson County, Ohio; married February 23, 1802 at Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio to Susannah Dew (1780-1829) daughter of Joseph and Violet (Eastwood) Dew; died February 12, 1823 (aged 45); buried at Short Creek burial grounds in Jefferson County, Ohio; known children include:  Joseph James, Nathan James, Samuel E. James, John D. James, Rachel James, Joshua James and Oliver James.

 

2.    Evan James:  born October 11, 1784 in Washington County, Pennsylvania; 1800 moved with parents to Jefferson County, Ohio; married April 1, 1807 in Belmont County, Ohio to Rebecca Pickering (1789-1848), daughter of Samuel Pickering and Phebe Lykens; moved to Wayne County, Indiana in 1823; died August 25, 1844 (aged 59) in Greensboro, Henry County, Indiana; buried at Brookshire Duck Creek Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery, Henry County, Indiana; known children include:  Hannah James, Phebe James, Jonas K. James, Jesse Kirzy James, Samuel James, Joshua James, Mary C. James, Joel E. James and Jehu L. James.

 

3.    George James:  born circa 1786 either in Washington County, Pennsylvania or Harrison County, Virginia; 1800 moved with parents to Jefferson County, Ohio; married December 28, 1808 at Westgrove Meeting House in Jefferson County, Ohio to Sarah Barber (1790-1844); died April 29, 1844 (aged 58) in Washington County, Ohio; known children include:  Anna James, Hannah James, Edith James, David James, Elizabeth James, Samuel James, Rachel James and Rebecca James.

 

4.    Samuel James, Jr.:  born circa 1789 in Harrison County, Virginia; 1800 moved with parents to Jefferson County, Ohio; married August 12, 1813 at the Abington meetinghouse to Lydia Worrall (1793-1865); died October 8, 1821 (aged 32); buried at Short Creek Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Jefferson County, Ohio; known children include:  Israel James, Mary Ann James, Sidney James, Rebecca W. James, Martha M. James.

 

5.    Nancy James:  born January 6, 1792 in Harrison County, Virginia; 1800 moved with parents to Jefferson County, Ohio; married January 23, 1810 in Jefferson County, Ohio to Thomas Smith (1787-1850) (her first cousin); died March 17, 1860 (aged 68) in Morgan County, Ohio; known children include:  Sarah Smith, James Smith, Hannah Hulda Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Evan Smith, Samuel Smith, Rachel Smith, James Smith, Margaret Smith, Mary Smith and Thomas Smith.

 

6.    Anne James:  born prior to August 22, 1795.

 

7.    Margaret James:  born June or July 1795 in Harrison County, Virginia; 1800 moved with parents to Jefferson County, Ohio; first marriage on November 11, 1813 in Jefferson County, Ohio to William Pugh (1788-1822), son of Joseph Pugh (c1768 - c1834); second marriage on June 29, 1826 in Richland Township, Belmont County, Ohio to Reece Davidson (-1874); died 1887 (aged 92) in Ohio; known children through William Pugh include: Hannah Pugh and Elisha Benjamin Pugh; known children through Reece Davidson include: one daughter (name not known).

Samuel James (1754-1812) was the son of Evan James (1715-1794) and Margaret Jones (-1790) of Radnor Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
