Children of Mary Susan Elizabeth James (1810-1882) of Bedford County, Virginia and Elijah Washington Howell (1799-1864) of Virginia:

 

1.    Isaac Jackson Howell:  born circa 1829 in Bedford County, Virginia; married Mary; died circa 1868; killed by runaway team of horses along a stake and rider fence.

 

2.    Craven Shelby Howell: born April 3, 1832 in Bedford County, Virginia; married 1856 to Sophronia Tucker; died April 3, 1864 (aged 32) in Appanoose County, Iowa; buried at Orleans Cemetery in Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa.

 

3.    Mary Susan Virginia Howell:  born February 21, 1833 in Bedford County, Virginia; married July 20, 1852 to John Preston Jennings (1826-1892), son of Sarah Susan Miller Stover (1803-1862); second marriage on January 8, 1902 in Appanoose County, Iowa to Martin Replogle; third marriage on November 8, 1906 to Ellis H. Peebler (1836-1916), son of Michael Farr Peebler (1809) and Frances Jacks (1811-1894); died November 24, 1921 in Appanoose County, Iowa; buried at Fairview Cemetery in Udell, Appanoose County, Iowa; known children include: William Elijah Jennings (1853-1937), Elisha James Jennings (1855-1942), Mary Elizabeth Jennings Nighswonger (1858-1945), John H. Jennings (1860-1862), Sarah Alice Jennings Buckmaster (1863-1896), Luella Jennings McClard (1866-1961), Saphronia Belle Jennings Deahl (1869-1910), Cora Emma Jennings Short (1871-1952), Sylvia Etta Jennings Stansberry (1874-1965), Eva Latilla Jennings Matthews (1876-1908), and, Flora Edna Jennings Stickler (1879-1981),

 

4.    James David Howell:  born November 16, 1841 in Bedford County, Virginia; married January 9, 1876 in Audrain County, Missouri to Martha Ann (nee “Bell”) Denny (1841-1900), a widow, daughter of W.M. and Minerva “Mary” Bell; died February 26, 1927 in Davis County, Iowa near Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa; buried in Orleans Cemetery in Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa; known children include: known children include: James David Howell (1864-1940), William Craven Howell (1870-1939), Russell Howell (1873-1895), and, Alice May Howell Kerby (1878-1956).

 

5.    Emily Anna Howell:  born circa 1851; married Alex Laughlin; died circa 1872.

 

6.    Madison Van Buren Howell: born 1836 in Virginia; married March 1859 in Appanoose County, Iowa to Nancy J. Hays; died November 23, 1884 (aged 47-48) in Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa; buried at Orleans Cemetery in Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa; known children include: Adolphus A. Howell.

Mary Susan Elizabeth James (1810-1882) was the daughter of Isaac Daniel James (1770-1853) and Mary Elizabeth “Polly” James (1774-1864) of Upper Marion Township, Pennsylvania.
